Term Two

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to term two! We hope you and your family had an enjoyable and restful Easter holiday. Term two is a very busy term with only tens weeks of school and therefore the students of Year Six have already started to work hard to ensure they complete their work this term.

Term Two Units of Work

This term in English students will be exploring the narrative genre. In history students will be learning about immigration trends in Australia post World War Two. The students will then use this information to write a historical narrative in character, as an individual who has migrated to Australia post World War Two. Their stories are expected to be interesting, descriptive and historically accurate.

The Year Six students will also be taking part in a Science week. This intensive week of study will explore the different forms of energy and how materials can be manipulated and changed to create new materials. Students will be conducting experiments and writing science reports.

In Religion the students will be examining Judaism. In groups they will research a Jewish Holy Day or celebration day and will write a report on their findings and give a group presentation. Their research will focus on the areas of symbols, text, beliefs & history, actions and ethics within their chosen day.

Interschool Sport & Dance Fever

This term we continue with interschool sport games and training. Training is on at school at 8am sharp. Students are expected to be in sports uniform or bring their sports uniform to change into after training. Students are expected to wear complete uniform including correct shoes. This is outlined in the parent handbook on the school website. Interschool sport games will be played on Friday afternoons and students are expected to wear full sports uniform to school and only change into their jersey at game time.

This term we will be participating in Dance Fever on a Tuesday. Students are expected to view these lessons as a part of their curriculum and therefore are expected to give their best efforts. Dance is a part of the curriculum and therefore students are expected to participate unless they have a legitimate reason with a note from home. Students are to wear their day uniform.

Reports & Parent Teacher Interviews

Report cards will be sent home at the end of Term Two. Teachers will also be conducting interviews near the end of this term (12th and 13th June). This is a wonderful chance to discuss with teachers your child’s progress. However, if you have any questions or concerns before then please contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment to discuss your concerns.
