Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to Term Two!  We hope you and your family had an enjoyable and restful Easter holiday.  Term Two is a very busy term with only ten weeks of school and therefore the students of Year Six have already started to work hard to ensure they complete their work this term.

Term Two Units of Work

This term in Religion the students will be examining Judaism.  Students will complete an inquiry based research task, investigating five different Jewish holy days and festivals.  They must demonstrate their knowledge of the holy days by completing a ‘Jewish Scrapbook’ using assigned resources.

In English the students will be exploring the narrative genre.  In History the students will be learning about immigration in Australia post World War II, with a particular focus on Jewish migration trends.  The students will then use this information to write a historical narrative in character, as a Jewish individual who has migrated to Australia post World War Two. The student’s stories are expected to be interesting, descriptive and historically accurate.

In Geography, as part of a study on how students are connected to other places, students will participate in an investigation linking the connections of Year Six students to other places through birth.  This inquiry will include surveying class members, collating their findings in a table, constructing graphs to display their findings, locating countries on a map and summarising their findings.

The Year Six students will also be completing a Chemical Science unit where they will be investigating chemical changes of various substances.  There will be a focus on reversible changes that can be carried out on certain materials and how this concept can be utilised in recycling.  Students will create a poster to exhibit their knowledge in a scientific manner using diagrams and flow charts.

In Health, the Year Six students will be discussing issues of bullying, social and emotional growth and peer pressure.   The students will watch the movie the ‘Karate Kid,’ where the main character experiences bullying.  Following this, students will be required to recreate a scene using role play, depicting how the event should have carried out.

Interschool Sport & Dance Fever

This term we continue with interschool sport games and training.  Training is on at school each Thursday morning at 8am sharp.  Interschool sport will continue on Friday afternoons and students are expected to wear their full sports uniform to school and only change into their jersey at game time.

This term we will be participating in Dance Fever on a Tuesday.  Students are expected to view these lessons as a part of their curriculum and therefore are expected to give their best efforts.  Students are expected to participate unless they have a legitimate reason with a note from home.

Reports & Parent Teacher Interviews

Report cards will be sent home at the end of Term Two.  Teachers will also be conducting interviews near the end of this term (10th and 11th June). This is a wonderful chance to discuss with teachers your child’s progress. However, if you have any questions or concerns before then please contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment to discuss your concerns.
